Description

UK BRED BABY LEOPARD TORTOISE 2024

Leopard tortoises are a large desert tortoise with a unique domed shell. They can be kept in a tortoise table or vivarium and can go outside on warm days.

Tortoises are cold blooded reptiles that need heat to function. Leopard tortoises require a basking hotspot temperature of 85F-90F during the day. At night time the temperature should between 65F-75F. These tortoises come from the African Savannah where air humidity is low.

They also require Ultra Violet lighting (UVA and UVB) for at least 12 hours a day, this stimulates appetite, activity and promotes vitamin D3 synthesis which tortoises need to absorb calcium and for healthy growth.

A multi-vitamin supplement must be added to their daily diet (Reptavite/Calcium Powder). A good mixture of plants, vegetables and our Komodo complete pellet food will ensure your tortoise has a balanced diet. Fresh food should be given everyday. Visit our tortoise diet page to find out the best foods for your tortoise.

Tortoises drink very little water. They should be bathed in a shallow dish of fresh warm water at least once a week. This helps them release their motions and uric acid. Fresh water should be given everyday.

We have found that hemp bedding the best substrate to use for Leopard tortoises as it is dust free and easy to clean. Droppings can be picked out daily and cleaned out fully every 3 weeks or when necessary.

Leopard Tortoises do not hibernate.

We have complete starter kits that include everything you need to care for your Leopard tortoise.

I had a baby Leopard Tortoise arrive a couple of months ago and he/She is arrived in beautiful condition. After a warm bath I introduced him/her to the enclosure I set up ready. As soon as I offered a dish of food the little Leopard Tortoise was eating which quite surprised me. Since then he/she has been eating a good variety of foods and doing extremely well. Very friendly and not at all shy. Absolutely wonderful!!
